David has a point. There is, unfortunately, too many college grads who feel automatically entitled to get without giving. When I graduated from college, I had to work some rather crappy jobs and work my way up. It's like this..if you need a job and all that you can secure right now is a job as janitor, then do it. You may have experience, credentials and qualifications out the ass, but there's only so many openings available at once. There's virtually no job that should be beneath one's dignity...you just have to look at as a starting point, that's all.

The other side of the coin, though, is that the number of opportunities are becoming increasingly scarce and advancement is becoming less and less about your individual merits and more about who you ingratiate yourself to.

I agree with this, which is why I support the underlying idea that there is growing inequality in America.

Also funny story, two months before I was at the current job I have. I was cleaning **** off a wall in the shape of a smiley face. I smile every time someone apologizes for asking me to do some bitch work.

a mere cursory glance at even the official ( and erroneous) employment
records will highlight this.

Yes I agree with your premise that folks who want to work should
be willing to take what is available. However there are often not
enough jobs available.

Here's an example for you , at the start of the season here
on of the local walnut houses did their seasonal hire. They had
1700 applicants for 85 slots. And working in a shelling plant
is no picnic.

And these two " there are plenty of jobs out there" clowns
will quite likely completely sidestep the question of under
employment , of folks working two jobs not in their 20s
but at 60 , but hey according to Devil all those folks are
just stupid and didn't plan.

And kudos for you for being willing to do what you had to
do to get where you wanted to go. I do mean that , that
doesn't however mean that there's a job for everuybody.

Nor does it mean that in spite of your hard work you
won't at some point get caught out by that inequality
that you now admit to seeing. Many an individual
much farther along than yourself has been derailed
by it.
