    USA Goju Federation Karate

    Pros:
    Excellent close quarters fighting
    Sparring orientated
    MODERATE focus on kata
    Good focus on naked chokeholds
    Great workouts
Good focus on techniques that won't maim, cripple, or kill your opponent.
Excellent for police officers, security guards and bouncers where causing injury or death is a huge liability
Some decent shoves and take downs with follow up strikes on the ground.
    Always growing and evolving

    Cons:

    Absence of consistent groundwork
    Too much emphisis on weaponry
Politics can be an issue in some dojos
Women are garnered way too much courtesy (I.E. you cant hit them very hard without the higher ups beating your ass.)

kali, escrima, arnis, same same. Again several hundred inhabited islands, several hundred languages/dialects, etc, etc.

Might I ask where on earth you've gotten the idea that silat is an empty hand art? The FMA (that's the easiet way to mention arnis, kali, & eskrima) empty hand "portion" is differant, but works.

I'm not overly familiar with Lacosta's stuff, but forgetting the weapon to beat down the opponent is a radical departure from the normal "defang the snake" concept that permiates the FMA's (not to mention Insanto-Lacosta blend escrima). Defanging the snake is FMA speak for removing the weapon via severe damage and/or disarm. Be the weapon a blade, stick, or hand. Or put another way the basic philosphy of the FMA's is to beat down anything between you and your opponent. Start with his weapon, move to his hand, go up the arm, across the shoulder, and remove his head.

Bear2 Heng Cheng is my younger brother i don't think he has registered on this site yet.

I will explain on this main forum so that everybody can see.
Shaolin Xinyi Bafa is different to the Xinyi and Xingyi Chuan that you may see being practised. It belongs to the internal family and has similar power generation to Xingyi stepping sets.
It has 72 main stepping postures and this is split into 8 parts each of the 8 parts is a striking part of the body much like Baji Chuan. It literally means Form with Focus 8 Routine Boxing.

Xinyi liuhe Chuan has more movements that XingYi and is more circular. Xinyi Bafa has certain movements combined from Bagua Zhang so it does look like liuhe Chuan in the stepping but not the rotation, with rotation used for attack and not for defense.

I'm going to start in Machado bjj soon, and in about a year I'm going to begin Pukulan mustika kweetang silat. For right now though, I'm practicing the art of run-fu.
