    Hi Rain Bird,

I reckon most MA people has experienced the same stuff, schools and/or teachers moving...:(

Which branch of WC did you train? (gradually moving the subject to WC:)) After my ninjutsu period I too trained a mixture of what I knew, seemed to be able to pick up, read in books et.c. I'm sure that helped me advance in my WC-training, even if WC was totally different from anything I'd seen before.

You mention Silat and JKD, I think they're quite similar in some aspects (from what I've heard), and I would definitely have a look at both of them if possible in my area.

Brandeis:I'll have to get back to you on the spelling. It is taught with MT. I haven't yet had time to check out the class.

Jeff:Hi, I'm not sure which branch of WC it was. I am pretty sure it wasn't "wing Tsun". So I assume it was the ip system or it may have been Chu sau Lei wing chun. Is there any way I would know from what I have been taught.

We spent most of our time perfecting chain punches and SLT.

The Eskrima classes are going well. I find the weapons training to directly effect my empty hand techniques. They have become a lot faster.

I will probably get to attend one of the JKD classes in the new year.

JKD: I am looking forward to going. However, I won't have the time or finances untill after the new year.

I found the link http://www.pfs-seal.com/ through the site that you posted earlier. I am a little concerned that Sifu "ony" doesn't refer to his style as JKD but rather "Seal combat system" in my experience "arts" with such names are BS. On the bright side there is another JKD school which I will also be taking a look at. <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Actually, Paul asked his students a while back, when the JKD Nucleus people were suing everyone named "Bruce" or "Lee" for copyright infringment, to down-play the JKD aspects of the PFS. We do "Jeet Kune Do Concepts" now.

I think you might be right to be wary of the "ony" guy, though. That web-page freaks me out a little. I'd check him out with my eyes wide-open before commiting to anything.

I am learning Wing Tsun and Sambo. Tried Ju-jutsu but the order of class was too unhuman for me. I want to study JKD also but there's no opportunity for that in my region.

Rain Bird - well, it could be *any* WC system from what you describe. Who was your teacher, if you don't mind my asking? He and/or the club might be traceable through the net. BTW, "the ip" system? Are you referring to Yip Man? Or any of his sons? I know that Yip Chun's name is somtimes spelled "Ip Chun". "Chu sau Lei wing chun" is smth I've never come across. I have to investigate that branch further...

I'm glad to hear that the Escrima suits you. Do you find it close to anything you've taken before?

    BTW,

BAJI ! is not like Bagua.Just the names are similar but they are about as different as two styles can be. I didn't like Akira back then when I played those games and before I knew about either.(yeah. no flow.)

Well BAJI ! is a Man's art. It ain't pretty! I find the debate over wether it's an internal art or not amusing because the internal arts are supposed to be 'soft' styles and BAJI! is the ' hardest gong-fu style in all China.

In addition to what Asia mentioned, I think it's most ditinguishing characteristic is the so-called bao-ZHA li or 'explosive' energy. Attacks are designed to explode out in all directions at once - front, back, up and down. If Hsing-yi shoots the fist out like a cannon, then BAJI ! is like a grenade exploding.

BAJI focuses more on just plain old hitting hard an being able to take a hit than any other thing I've seen. Then you add on the whole qi-gong/internal side and you get . . . . .

    BAJI !

    My current style. :)

NOT internal. (I don't care if somebody else says it IS internal. It won't help me train)
