Interesting variation on the theme. Someone demo'ed the non-dumping version at a club I visited last Thursday. I prefer to do the wrist drag to key lock turnover, as I think it offers more control and options, especially of uke decides to flatten out in defense.
Falling for Judo since 1980

Some JitsMag videos, like this one, are a puzzle. There are dozens of great turtle turnovers and this...is not one of them. If you get the initial grip, why do this? And then fish through the legs (good luck if they flatten), followed by a power move? Ironically, Judo guys are more likely to have the explosive power to do this to someone in their weight class than BJJ guys.
As I think of it, there may be a variation of this kind of technique in Okano's ne waza book...

Justin Bruckmann has a Judo background so he prefers to do stuff like this. It's just an option for some people who may find this technique more suitable for their style, background or body type.

Probably totally illegal, but here it is, still good to know...

Fasten your seat belts, and prepare for lift off

I do a similar variation to the last one that I think is easier and works on bigger people. You jump on them, put your feet on their hips/thighs squatting over them, two hands grabbing the back of their collar, push off of them pulling their collar up, and put your hooks in.

That's an interesting alternative. The standard move I know from that initial leg position is the Russian/Iatskevitch roll, which has a long and well-established competition record. Here it is described by Judoka_uk: http://thedifficultway.blogspot.com/...vitch-and.html
Why this and not that? I'm a little dubious of getting him to turn from the just arm-on-arm.

I might be missing something but I can't tell what's he grabbing in the first video. Is he feeding a sleeve between the guy's legs, or what?
