    Preventing nosebleeds?

Hey all. As a boxer, I love sparring. However, while I'm decent at slipping, dodging, and blocking, my nose is really weak. One good cross to the face and my nose turns into a faucet of blood. Even when I was little, my nose bled a lot, to the point where my mom thought I had cancer (I didn't, the doctor just said to be careful). It doesn't bleed at random anymore, just when it gets hit. The obvious answer to prevent this is "don't get hit," but does anyone know any other way to prevent my nose from bleeding so much?

Did your doctor indicate any specific medical reason why your nose bleeds so easily ?

Perhaps you might need to talk to him/her again.

You probably need your nose cauterized.

I was thinking that but I don't understand what exactly they'd cauterize.. do they just apply that process to the mucus membrane ?

I had a problem with random nose bleeds except mine just wouldn't stop. They apparently came from the capilaries in my nose being dry. I guess the capilaries get brittle when they dry out.

The quack cauterized and I had to have some sort of plastic bubble in my nose for about a month. The silver oxide (I think that's what it was) ran down and onto the skin under my nose and burned the hell out of it. Good news is I've never had a nose bleed since.

I used to have the nosebleed problem, but I was fortunate to have a simple and somewhat painful fix. Silver nitrate swabs. Wet one down and swab it all over the inside of your nose. Be warned, it burns in a way that is almost impossible to describe. I got my swabs from a friend that works as a paramedic.

I used to have the same thing. I had my nose cauterized when I was a teenager but to no noticeable change. I would often spend over half of my rugby matches with tissues/swaps stuck up my nose. In my twenties they just got less and less frequent and are a rarity now. You might just have to suck it up (pun intended) and see if you grow out of them.
