I watched with my uncle, who happens to be a boxing fan, and he said it reminded him of a Tyson fight, yeah it was fast and he wished it would have lasted longer, but it definitely made him want to see Junior fight again, especially if he fights Lesnar.
He is completely new to mma, and the event made him want to see more, and while we were watching the post fight show, he said that he really wished, based on the clips from the fight, that they would have aired the Bendo/Guida fight.
I, personally, don't think the event was a failure in the eyes of the new viewers, a little disappointing, perhaps, but I think that people like to see knockouts, even if they happen much more quickly than expected. -

To be fair, he was only out for a couple seconds before JDS woke him back up with more punches. I had to rewatch the fight to really notice that he was actually out.
I have to say I did not see that coming, like everyone else I was expecting a war. But when fighters of this caliber match up, its always a possibility to have to prepare for. As for Velasquez, I don't think he'll get a rematch with JDS, because to quote one of Seanbaby's MMA articles: "The fact that he woke up later, not dead, means that he will spend the rest of his life being hunted by military researchers wanting to harvest him for tank parts."
I was confused by the long introduction not because I didn't like it (I was pretty neutral about it), but because if this fight had actually lasted much longer, they would have gone over. They were barely able to wrap it up within an hour, so if this had been the war everyone was hoping for it definitely would have gone over. -

Actually I have no problem with the fight itself, JDS came, JDS saw, JDS smashed Velasquez in the face.
My problem is all the tedium and idiocy before and after the fight. I don't get it. UFC on Versus and UFC Fight Nights on Spike were never this annoying and always had at least 3 fights. I figured it was going to be dumb when they announced it was just one fight (and a heavy weight 1 round knockout kind of fight) and sure enough, it was.
Edit: Oh and you early stoppage idiots can get fucked. Cain was out cold at least 2x."Keep a sharp knife, shiny boots and be on time." -

I can't stress enough just how much Fox sucks at everything other than football.
Here's an article that just came up..the backlash has been significant.
