I am currently watching Ali v Frazier I and it's Round 11 and Ali has just been clocked and is in trouble of dropping.
I thought Ali needed another fight before he accepted the fight with Frazier. Still, Joe was never going to be denied. What is not know is that Ali had a crisis of Confidence on the way to the Garden. He appealed to Dundee, "Hey Angelo. I'm better than Jimmy ain't I?" "sure you are Champ". The exchange was repeated. Dundee realised that Ali just needed the reassurance that he would not get KO'd as Jimmy Ellis had been. Not quite sure where I read it but was a few years ago.
It was Ali's first pro defeat. It was not his first Knockdown, that trick had been achieved by Sonny Banks before Clay (Ali) beat Sonny Liston.
Smokin' Joe Frazier. Beaten by Foreman and Ali. How's that for a resume? A great fighter. RIP. -

They had better give the man his statue in Philly. WTF Rocky statue, but no smokin joe bronze? That's some bullshit. He was an Olympic Gold Medalist, and the first guy to beat the "Greatest" professionally.

This has been an issue for some time, but now, with Joe's passing, it's crucial.
