Welp, I spoke with Dominick Izzo and he really stands by the idea of the series and what Danny is doing. I think he simply believes we need more of that sort of thing in the wing chun world.

Or maybe you were just trolling. I'm going to pretend that you were just being funny. That was you doing humor. HA HA H.. *sad face*

(The only thing I've seen of Obasi's that really impressed me was the video of him and Boztepe... and what impressed me was how skilled Boztepe came off in those.)

Yes, this is a serious question.
This is a response to the "chi sao is only non-alive bullshit with presets and automated responses" people. Really, good chi sao is an alive drill, and the people who say "we didn't practice this at all" are making an attempt to convince others of that idea.

Timed things (like having 90 seconds only) tend to turn things into "competitive" chi sao. Some people hate the idea of competitive chi sao, and some people are tired of the "it's only ever a drill!" argument. That's an argument that has gone back a long, long way.

I believe it stems from not enough sparring. Students I know that spar, don't treat drills (sensitivity or otherwise) like a big deal, or anything to brag on, in any way.

I explained this to Daniel when he was suggesting we shouldn't spar at Redline because internet goons (lol) would show up. Sparring isn't a big deal. Drills much less so.

It would seem that what he started with was an attempt to utilize wing chun in fights against other stylists, but then it turned into wing chun "fights" against other wing chunners, plus bickering about who's got the best wing chun. So, in my mind, he started off with a good goal and then steered right into the insular chi sao dick measuring contest that wing chun has become. He's becoming more entrenched in the chun and stopped seeking non-chunners. He's selectively taking down criticisms and vids that make him look poor, while leaving up the ones that shoot down his opponents. Looks to me like he's content to become a big fish in a small pond, which is a central problem of the chun.

    Sure did.

I'm going to pretend you parsed this out of context because, you projected your emotions about Obasi into your response. Read Izzo's response and see if you can figure it out in context.

Actually, I'll make it simple for you:

It is my hopes that you see and understand, that in spite of his history with you, Danny Horgan is a consummate gentleman, class act and man of integrity.

In my opinion, he is the best thing to happen to Wing Chun in the last 20 years, forcing us as a community to open our eyes and allowing us to get our voices out there.
If Dan a LYING, no integrity having, self promoting, arrogant douche is the best thing to happen to the Chun, in 20 years, then Shawn Obasi is a Wing Chun God among men. He did everything similar to Dan, before Dan, but he backed it up in the ring. He didn't use a sparring match to leap into video promotion and lying.

So, if Dan is the best thing for chun in 20 years the same applies to Shawn Obasi. Nope, not trolling, it is actually ironic. That's why he was included in the list. He is a polarizing figure, look at your emotional response, just like Dan.

Thanks for attempting to answer my question. You answered something else, but thanks.

He crosstrains, and fights in sanctioned matches. That's a billion light years beyond your average WC practitioner. He felt the blunt club of reality, and did something about it. I agree with IIF. He is your God!

The best thing to happen to Chun in 20 years was really Dave Beneteau.

Did I say Chun? I meant Canada.

Before my post is misinterpreted, like Dan, Shawn has altered his bio, promoted himself (Wing Chun Standard Bearer) bigger than life and basically lied about a few things. Obasi then arrogantly ran around telling everyone look at what I did, fighting lesser opponent, no offense to at the time injured Bobby, then crowed about it everywhere he could. Still, he got in the ring and actually FOUGHT. Dan challenged the internet, was invited to SPAR, lied to his PARTNER and then tried to sell it as a fight. You know, after DAN PURPOSELY AVOIDED AMATEUR, PRO, and EXPERT fighters.

No, those three examples aren't exclusive and can be combined.

Uh-oh. Forgot my basic math--what does one get by multiplying any value by zero?
