Any tips for beginners to jump-roping? I got fitted alright (as far as I know) and my max jumping is 12 in a row so far...

The best thing about the jumping rope exercise is you don't even need the rope.

I don't know if it's in my head, but I get a lot more winded when the actual rope is involved.

Not sure if I get more winded but I sure do get more whip marks on my poor bare feet with the rope involved. Its like a punishment for missing a jump!

Could have to do with the timing/rhythm of the rope and physical movement.
And yeah, the rope getting snagged is a real bitch.
Usually happens when I get winded.
And keeps happening until I toss the damn thing and take my rage out on chocolate cake.

When you're jumping rope, try to isolate the motion to your wrists and ankles. A lot of beginners want to jump using the knees and hips, and that doesn't really work with the speed you need to keep the rhythm of a jump rope. Clear the rope as you jump, but recognize that you really don't need to jump very high.

On the subject of jumping rope what do you guys feel is a good set length?
I usually do 5m before getting bored, maybe more if I'm watching TV or something.
It's boring to jump rope for much longer than that, imho.
