If we go back we both know you engage just as much, if not more so, than I. If it was Tom or Omega I'd say it was getting my goat.

    You? LOL no.

So, if I understand correctly, the TC is going to take what he thinks is the best of Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido, mash those techniques together and create a new martial art that is self-defense worthy? This coming from a guy who thinks MMA is strictly a "sport"?

Look, it's great that he wants to address what he perceives as deficiencies in his chosen styles, but mashing the two together isn't going to solve everything. He's going to have to cross train in other styles in order to form a complete fighting method.

No, I agree with Omega. The disconnect occurs when a person thinks he can fix things by himself and then create grappling.

Omega said you look deeper at your techniques and then get a "specialist" who knows to work with you.

hey, not trying to make a new art, just take out what I dont like in hapkido. Ok can someone help me with a ?
I had many hapkido masters tell me it up to the instructor on how he teaches hapkido. Im not saying this is true. However I have been to many schools where the belt systems where different in what they taught in each one, and the techniques varied a little in each one. So I thought maybe I would add strikes etc, change a little on some techniques to be more effective.
I dont really see a problem with TKD and hapkido together really. Alot of schools do it now.
Far as grappling, I dont teach it, but have a BJJ Black belt come in and do seminars with us a few times per month.. As extra training, my kickboxing students attend this also

There are no 2 teachers who teach exactly the same, even within the same system. Everyone will add their own twist to how they teach. As far as "changing a few techniques to make them more effective," you are making them more effective from your POV. In order to truly mkae something effective, the student needs to find a way to make it work for them. They need to own it.

Having a BJJ black belt come in and teach seminars a few times per month has to be getting a bit expensive fro you and your students. Why don't you start training with the BJJ black belt and get your ground game down yourself? And have your students train there as well. That way you get more exposure to the techniques, instead of the occasional insertion of a small number of techniques. I guess on the bright side, you did not buy a video series with which to build an entire ground game from.
