    Unsure of Creds

Hi guys I'm not sure I posted in the right section I hope I have.

I want to know if anyone can help me. I am wanting to find out if a person I know is actually a BJJ Black belt as he claims.

Now this might seem straight forward and easy to find out but its been really hard to get any information on this guy.

He claims a BJJ Black belt 1st Dan but nowhere does it say who he obtained his black belt from. There is evidence that he has competed in various BJJ comps and even win them.

There is also evidence that he has trained under some very well known and respected BJJ blacks. But no where does it say when and where did he obtain his Black Belt in BJJ.

I know he competes regularly at Black belt level in comps.

I wont say his name as I don't to look like a fool just in case he is a black belt as he claims.

I want to know how I should go about finding out if he is a black belt.

Is there a list for this stuff somewhere on the internet ?

A legit black belt would probably be upfront and tell you his answer, and would probably even appreciate having an online record so people could find it easily.

A lot of people imagine that us Bullshido folks are only out to prove that certain people are frauds, but this isn't true. We're out for the truth, and if he was legit, that would be awesome and high fives would be in order.

There is an online database for larger orgs. Also, try googling his name and seeing what comes up.

Read some of the bullshido.ORG articles that describe how the various successful investigations unfold.

The lists out there are inconsistent.

Simply ask your friend, while in conversation about martial arts, who gave him his black belt. A legit black belt will NEVER hedge when it comes to answering this question. NEVER.

If he gives you a name, then at least you have something to work with. Follow-up with asking where he trained and how long he's been training. Just be genuinely curious about it because, in reality, you are.

If he gets confrontational, the likelihood that he is bogus skyrockets.
