    Ross Training (dot com) has great conditioning sets

    squats and deads are always good. and as everybody else has said - roll more. you can go light, communicate that of course, and go harder.

    burpees are always a good way to start the day :)

    Unless something is keeping you from attending more BJJ attend more BJJ. You can do other stuff but it will not be as effective as more rolling.

    I told myself the same thing about getting in shape before going back to bjj..... For a year I told myself that. Then finally I worked on cardio for a couple of months and got back into BJJ. Fucking painfull. The first three months were just sheer torture and pain. The cardio did'nt do **** for me.

    I started slow going just twice a week and have been working up to more days as my body adapts. I changed my diet up and now the weight is starting to come off. Like you I'm hoping that the weight loss will help reduce injury. I'm looking to loose at least 40 more pounds.

    Now I am at a point to where I'm trying to get workouts 6 days a week with at least 4 of those workouts at bjj. On the days I can't make it to bjj I work on my cardio.

    Go back to BJJ and take it easy.

    However, while you're taking it easy I'd definitely suggest taking measures to strengthen your back, shoulders and grip particularly. You can do this in a ton of ways, but Rosstraining.com probably has some of the more versatile exercise programs.

    These things won't make you fitter for BJJ, but they will make you stronger and less likely to get injured. Pre-hab is always better than rehab.

    I have rarely stopped training for more than three weeks in several years. Maybe 4 weeks once or twice. Right now, I'm training 0-3 times a week depending on my work schedule.

    What I've noticed, as I've gotten older, is that I can no longer avoid the need for strength training. To be sure some of this is transitioning from a blue collar into a white collar job, but that's not the only reason.

    Some of you younger members can jump back onto the mat after a significant hiatus, but that's not so great of an option for those of us past 40.
    Shut the hell up and train.
