That's EXACTLY what it is mate. There's no logical reason for redirecting that low with the intent of bringing them back up.

If you managed to pull that off, the individual concerned is going to face plant, the ensuing iriminage is only possible BECAUSE uke understands its their responsibility to react in a predetermined way, hence why its unrealistic to train that way.

Essentially it's like training for a technique you'll never get the opportunity of applying outside of the dojo with a trained uke.

I agree with both of you, maybe the answer is, its the counter when you try and take them down and they don't go all the way but manage to start getting back up again. Is this a case of aikidoka being so ingrained to play uke, that they aren't being alive? Whenever I was on the receiving end of it, and I got down to about the same position, getting back up was pretty awkward though.

My answer is simple... Smash the **** in the face then, when he's either stunned and or wondering WTF was that, drive irimi or sokumen irimi nage home - but that wouldn't be very "aiki" would it lol

One of my first aikido influences was a guy who used to like hurting people. A big guy, Who'd served in Aden in the 60s I believe.

He once said to me "the peace of aikido should be the peace of the battlefield, when all your enemies lie dead around you!"

It's only after his passing that I wondered if he worshipped crom

No, not him. This guy wasn't especially high ranking. Was 1st dan I think when he sadly died.

(not mentiong the name as my post doesn't sound how he would want to be remembered.)
