If that's what kendo has become, then I'm saddened to hear that. I attended a few demonstrations given by Sensei Tony Kull. He did say that kenjutsu is better for training in sword use than kendo as kenjutsu deals with sword training in a more direct fashion than kendo, which tends to emphasize more mental and spiritual development. No idea if that's true or not, but I wasn't going to argue with a guy that thumped me hard enough with a shinai to make me black out for a few seconds.

What if the Booj has a real sword. Where's your kendo now!

They'd likely get their head cracked open, and drop the sword...piercing their own foot as it falls. At the sight of blood, they'd faint and impale themselves on their sword, resulting in youtube fame, and affirmatively answering the question of whether or not they are too d3adly to spar.
They're too deadly to be trusted with cutlery, let alone weaponry. Hmm the Booj would make good candidates for the darwin award.

What bet way to obscure the r34l d34dly than behind a smoke screen of fail!! Think about it!
are there no kenjutsu experts on here?
intuitively I'd say if you'd combine traditional kenjutsu with tamashi geri and kendo for sparring you're getting somewhere?
I think the body mechanics of kendo are different due to the hitting motion instead of a slicing motion e.g. you strike a bamboo mat with a katana kendo style it won't cut.
Yep, Sty will tell you this is my conspiracy theory about ninjers.

Wait no...that's Scientology and the Norse Apocalypse. I'm getting them mixed up with ninjer lore.
Oh, kenjutsu experts are around. But they prefer not to sully themselves in this silliness.
