It is funny because Shaolin is enduring but the stories have similarities to the nijna myth IMO. You see techniques and a battle then suddenly silence and a plethora of evidence centuries later.

Before someone flips out I am not saying fake. I'm saying "Monk "A originally came to Shaolin with Tong Bei boxing. He Met "Monk B" who had Ho Quan. They came to the temple and suddenly Shaolin taught them techniques instead of them teaching the monks.

When I learn it myself. Fake is 100% right in that trying to distinguish history from "other" in the Shaolin realm is very difficult. I will be studying this stuff for a quite a while because I truly am interested in Shaolin heritage from a purely academic point of view...you'd need to know about my grandfather and his history in Asia to truly understand why this stuff interests me on that level...my family actually has a loooong background in Asian studies, particularly India.

I'm starting to learn reading/writing Chinese proper as well through a combination of books and self study as well as working with some local people I know who speak both Mandarin and Cantonese.

Martial arts training is nothing compared to trying to learn Chinese lol...
