It's funny. People are like, "Oh you're a blue/purple belt in BJ-what?" but when you mention your TKD/Krotty/Etc.. black belt, they are like, "WHOA! Badass wouldn't wanna mess with you!"

That's slowly changing though. I'm finding more and more than when you tell people you do martial arts they now immediately think you're some sort of cage fighter. Hooray for evolving misconceptions!

Yellow cord thing in capoeira. Otherwise I think there will be no more belts for me.

That's hilarious yet sadly true. My BJJ blue belt and time spent doing MMA etc amounts to glazed expressions and disinterest when compared to my black belt in 'ninjutsu'.

Trying to explain to clients why I have a black eye or cauliflower ear has gotten to the point that I find it easier to just say I play rugby. When I did say it was from martial arts training it resulted in me trying to explain that a) I was indeed a family man and business professional and b) not someone whose sole interests were in adding to a burgeoning collection of tattoos and Tapout shirts in between 'cagefights' where I would spend time beating the **** out of people for purely sadistic reasons. One step forward and two steps back!

I wear a black sash just like this one. It has nothing to do with any rank; it's to keep my gut in and my back supported.

    In this order please:

    Teacher:
