Doing the English teaching myself in Surat Thani. Not really known for it's MT, but I've found a great gym/trainer. I'll bee here a while so if you ever find yourself down Southside (especially the East Coast, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and the like) send me a PM I'll give you my Thai phone and we might get a mini Thai TD going :p

I honestly don't know much about the gyms here. I came for different reasons and just feel lucky I could work it in, so I didn't do the "camp roundup" before I arrived, but beware of some Tourist-y gyms. They'll let you slack, overcharge and then throw you in a ring at the end against a hapless farmer or destroyed (now brain-dead) former "champ" whose focus is the dive in the 2nd or 3rd round (before you gas) to get their pay. It's pretty common on places like Phuket (not sure about Bangkok) so just beware you know what kinda place you signed up for.

I'm jealous you get to be so focused on your training. I can only devote 3 days a week of 1.5hr sessions due to work and language classes (gotta prioritize) but I hope to get at least 1 good week of 6 days training this October (school vacation) but we'll see.

Neo, you know where in Thailand you'll be? I get another vacation in April and was planning some travel time then before May (when school season starts again) and could probably arrange a meet-and-greet when you get here.

Oh, and about the visa, I got a 3 month non-tourist B (working so I don't know for you) from the consulate in NY in 2 days. Paperwork needed was proof of $200 in a bank, a passport (duh), other ID (I think?) and some papers sent by my school. Now I have to ask my roomie when he gets back from Samui but he's like you (gf teaching, he trades stock) and he has to make a run to Burma every 3 months but it's not a big deal once you get here.

It's on the other coast. About 3-4 hours drive.

There's a monkey "college" here where they teach them to harvest coconuts. I've been meaning on making a visit.

Not yet, she's still going through the process and I guess they haven't told her yet where she'll be. Seems a lot of their schools are in or near Bangkok, though. My coach always goes to Kaewsamrit when he's there, so I'd naturally want to check them out first.

Yeah, I talked to my coach, he's been over there twice now. Said it was pretty much go for three months, hop the border, fill out some papers, and you're good until next time you have to do it. But I've only ever been out of the country once, for my honeymoon, so the whole process and everything is just really intimidating. I'm ridiculously excited about training over there, though.

Yeah, this is unlike any other travel experience I've encountered. Instead of getting papers for a vacation for a week or two you're entering a new country and asking for residence (albeit temporarily). So it's understandibly a little daunting. Just get it done as early as you can and you'll feel better.

I wish I could be a little more helpful with the teaching side of things but as it's my first year here I don't think I'll be much of a help, still if any questions feel free to pop me a PM or something
