Right, I just think it's about representation. The unifying theme here with chunners always seems to be that they misrepresent themselves via video...style over substance that is the ruin of so much CMA. If I've learned anything from Bullshido it's that this is to be avoided. Just be honest about what you're showing people...because the marginally intelligent ones will know anyway.

I would never show people da saam sing and claim "this is how HARD we fight!" because that's misrepresenting what it is...it's a simple drill. It is hard to do. It is definitely painful. But it's basically just a form exercise that leads to the later bridging methods, which are part of other exercises, and then on to progressively resistive drilling and ultimately sparring.

So..even if the "good" chi sau video isn't necessarily scripted and is more dynamic, Chunners across the world will show you this video and say "this is how HARD we fight!" and the Bullshido collective laughs for good reason.

Drills aren't sparring. Relatively alive drills are still drills. Randomness, broken rhythm and feints change EVERYTHING.

    W. Rabbit: Trust me when I say that chi sau is not for arm conditioning in the "make your arms tougher" kind of way. Maybe conditioning your sensitivity, or reflexes, or muscle memory...and maybe conditioning your shoulder muscles or conditioning your body to remember arm structures and positions...but not in the "iron palm" sense of the word conditioning. Really the wooden dummy isn't even meant for arm conditioning.

This isn't a comment on the useful or uselessness of that drill.

Wing Chun's an art and I personally respect that. It's all about timing and precision but once you are in a match, it is almost impossible to time your opponents let alone defend. This may be applicable as an exercise, cardio or stress reliever after a hard days work. :)

Uh oh, a "respect each other" n00b. I can see your future, n00b, it is not bright. But you'd be used to being a bit dim, now, wouldn't you, n00b?
