Ask for a second hand gi, or a hand-me-down. Buying a pair of jammies or something from K mart is gonna shread in one class. By the time you're done replacing them 4 times in a week, you're going to have spent more money than a cheap Judo or BJJ gi. Look into Fuji, they run about 80. If you can't afford one, train no-gi till you can save up. It'll last at LEAST over a year, and I can't think of a pair of pants (aside from jeans?) that's gonna handle the abuse of multiple guard passes, chokes, tugs, etc.

I wonder how the humidity where you are in HI compares to Florida. It takes well over a day for GIs to dry if I hang them inside or in the garage I blame Florida's shitty humidity. The only way a GI will be dry enough within one day of washing it for me is if I hang it outside in the sunlight.

Military fatigues are cheap, and pretty rugged. Cut the buttons off, you could do worse.

I can see the ocean from my house and i've been waiting all summer for my porch to dry out sufficiently to paint it.
(Hawai'i trivia: The island of Kauai is home to the wettest spot on Earth.)

I use an extra spin cycle if it's really humid and i used one of the heavy ones. (Poor choice that...).
    Centrifuge that bitch!

Yup. BDUs. Get them a size too big and get a bunch, cause they will rip. But they are cheap as ****.

I recommend BJJHQ- one VERY cheap deal a day (even considering the $40 or so shipping fee they charge its still almost half the price of buying it anywhere else)

    http://www.bjjhq.com/
or http://tatamifightwear.com/product.php?id_product=111 - Basic but very sturdy Gi :)
