    Dog Brothers 2011 gathering

This weekend is the annual public Dog Brothers gathering, in Hayastan MMA (Gokor's gym) in North Hollywood. I plan on fighting with single stick and also knife, and will also be bringing some unorthodox weapons I might try out. If you're in SoCal, I highly recommend checking it out. Any other bullies gonna be fighting this year?

Here's a vid from last year's event (same place):

How bad is it that the huge nerd in me looks at that video and all I can think is: Oh man! Sweet Jason Voorhees mask! Sweet Grendel mask! I want my headgear painted like that!

Then two things occur to me.

    1. I've had three Kali classes.
    2. I don't own headgear

Great seeing you yesterday, Perma. Next Gathering, we'll have to cross sticks.

Great gathering! Poidog was there sporting his Bullshido shorts, fighting with knife, stick, double stick and long staff. I got a few fights in and am covered in welts, but it was a lot of fun. I put my nunchaku in my waistband and pulled it out halfway through my last stickfight. Lots of good action, nobody got seriously injured (one guy ended up getting hit in the ear without a mask on, and later he got hit with a training knife in the other ear and required stitches, but nothing too major). Looking forward to next year.

The guy that does most of them is a very talented artist, and also a hell of a fighter. At last years gathering, I fought him and ended up being pinned down and stabbed in the groin repeatedly, despite him being much smaller than me.

Then two things occur to me.

    1. I've had three Kali classes.
    2. I don't own headgear
Last year there was a muay thai guy with a few hours of weapon instruction, and he actually did pretty well. Whenever it went to a clinch he dumped them pretty easily.

    Great job Poi Dog

    Poi,
It was great seeing you fight yesterday, especially with the staff, in Bullshido shorts no less

I think there was one other member there. Thing that sucks is that I was in the area and could've come by. I just didin't know.

Gokor was sitting on the side when one of the fights landed right on top of him. Gokor put a short arm scissor on one of the guys. Thought you'd like that.

I come to an understanding that you guys use live rattan, how do they compare (in pain wise) to burnt sticks? Do they break easily especially when doing subs with them?
