Don't do curls.
Do bench press, Squats, deadlifts, and overhead press.
In fact, just go to www.stronglifts.com and start the Stronglifts program. That will head off any idiocy you might be tempted to fall into.

To the initial post: It's not the kind of weight, but the load and the joint movement that engages a muscle. Dumbbells, barbells, it doesn't really matter. And there's no way to isolate just the "peak" of the biceps. That's just nonsense.
That said, the PT Forum is my domain, and it's for intelligent and constructive discussion. If I catch even a whiff of troll, your ass is gone from here. Keep that in Trollshido.Click To Get My Free Training Newsletter... Do It NOW!

Guy Who Pays the Bills and Gets the Death Threats Style: MMA (Retired)--
Lean muscle is about diet. You can't build "fatty muscle" (the converse), by doing any particular set/style of lifting. You can't build any muscle without a surplus of calories; carbs, proteins, and good fats.
Stop adhering to 1980's fitness concepts and/or magazines designed to sell you shitty, overpriced supplements. -

I'm having trouble understanding your goals. You talk about building "mass via dumbell" but want "lean muscle". Is this a body building type objective you're aiming at? or a strength type of goal?. You want (from what you've written) large muscles with no body fat, correct?. You need to investigate body building programs perhaps.
Actually?? i think i'm gonna give up here. I'm reasonably sure you're wanting some hollywood portrayal of the "ripped action hero" type body. Thats hollywood and not normal or achieveable for most.More research and understanding of your goal is perhaps your first step?
Of course i could be completely wrong and have misread what you wrote.
The stronglifts will put you on the path to strength.Last edited by KiwiPhil889; 9/08/2011 9:32pm at .
