because your average dude/chick is not plastic man and cant turn his arms into a giant shield surrounding his/her entire body.

even if i was plastic man i could think of about 1000 better uses for my power to stretch and contort certain extremities of my body than fighting.

in my opinion, striking is just another way to weaken one's opponent during a fight since just straight grappling can not only give your opponent a chance to gain the upper hand. but also striking can help a person dominate their opponent and win the fight

Finally! We have a ninja expert to chime in and lend his vast experience on the matter.
"Judo is a study of techniques with which you may kill if you wish to kill, injure if you wish to injure, subdue if you wish to subdue, and, when attacked, defend yourself" - Jigoro Kano (1889)
***Was this quote "taken out of context"?***

"The judoist has no time to allow himself a margin for error, especially in a situation upon which his or another person's very life depends...."
~ The Secret of Judo (Jiichi Watanabe & Lindy Avakian), p.19

"Hope is not a method... nor is enthusiasm."
    ~ Brigadier General Gordon Toney

Hey don't interupt. Bluto is about to list off 1000 different ways to stretch and contort certain extremities of the body, in alphabetical order no less, that would be better used than fighting!

You know he's bluffing about knowing the alphabet?
Considered in the abstract the boxing ring is an altar of sorts, one of those legendary spaces where the laws of a nation are suspended: inside the ropes, during an officially regulated three-minute round, a man may be killed by his opponent's hands but he cannot be legally murdered. Boxing inhabits a sacred space predating civilization; or, to use D.H. Lawrence's phrase, before God was love. If it suggests a savage ceremony or a rite of atonement it also suggests the futility of such gestures. For what possible atonement is the fight waged if it must shortly be waged again... and again? The boxing match is the very image, the more terrifying for being so stylized, of mankind's collective aggression; its ongoing historical madness.
    Joyce Carol Oates, On Boxing
