Been there. It'll be fine. All in all, if you plan to train for a lifetime, what's a couple months in the beginning? Truth be told, being injured during the WB phase is a true test. If you come back after being injured, that means you're dedicated.

Hell, most WB's leave after a month or 2 just because it's work and they didn't expect that it would be challenging.

Compared to a lifetime of training, what's a couple months? It's better to have to remain a certain rank due to injury than to drop out and be a ***** forever.

in response to the "Don't overtrain!" sentiments, I hear ya loud and clear. I don't find the actual BJJ technical training to be too taxing on the body, and it's more like akin to training my mind than it is a physical strain. The physical training aspect is currently only at 2 days a week due to IRL obligations and laziness, so I think I'm alright for now :P

I've been out for a little over a year. Arthritis in L4-L5 and a herniated disc between. I'm just starting back, and even though physical therapy has helped preserve the flexibility, the rest is in total disrepair. I walked briskly on a 5k last night, just to see if I could do it. It went ok, but I'm paying the bill today.

    Slow and steady.

Took time off for grad school since end of 2009/beginning of 2010.
Starting to come back the last month or so, even though grad school's not finished.
Won't be back full time till Jan of 2012.
Hoping I can get my baby steps out of the way in the next few months.
Have to drop a ton of weight: 20lbs before I'm back to normal training weight, 45+ till I can think about competition.
Also need to get my technique & endurance back.
The plan is a healthy diet, cardio bag & cross training classes at one gym 4 times a week, short workout at muay thai gym once a week.
This week's throwing a wrench into my plans with tonight being my only free night to hit the gym, so I'm going to do a nice long workout at the muay thai gym.
Hoping I can get back to my old self by January.
