    Hell yeah! Hell no!

After training 4-5 days a week for the past 2 weeks

...and being out of legitimate formal training for just under a year, I've realized that I really suck. SO many details forgotten over the last year that I'm now just brushing up on, feeling like an archeologist uncovering long lost ruins.

    Anyone else terrible? :okay:

It's hard to get back to where you were at after so long, but if you keep it up you'll most likely find that you'll improve quickly, everything will fall back into place. You just have to keep your training consistant ha.

It happens to everyone though. Long breaks are detrimental to any training but i find short breaks are good to keep you fresh. I don't train nearly enough as i really should. :/

    Too much training too quick.

Relax, go three times maybe four if they are short classes and all focus on one range/style/approach/etc.
Boxing twice a week and short TKD classes twice a week? Maybe.
MT three times a week and two judo classes a week after a year off? NO.
Five short TKD classes a week ? Sure.
Boxing twice a week and BJJ two or three times a week ? NO.

It will take a little time, bear with it and don't burn yourself mentally or physically trying to start too strong.

... and yes I am teh tewarballs right now as well.

    Try this:

7 years since training at black belt level, and 5 years since any proper karate training. Trying to get back into training... Fitness, strength, flexibility and alot of knowledge have either disappeared, now non-existent or is very rusty.

I'm already back to flailing noob status, and now that my doctor thinks I have a torn meniscus (thanks, Aikido guy with a chip on his shoulder that I shouldn't have been compliant with) in my "good" knee, I'm going to be on the bench for even longer.

But then, my Sensei walked away from Kyokushin for a good 23 years and is back in it again, getting up to speed but doing great, so I figure if he can do it, I can too.

Yeah I feel ya. The past couple years I didn't do much besides tread water. This year I have been back at the gym regularly, but focusing on one range at a time in order to feel some improvement. My stand-up game is feeling better than it has in years, but when I start doing ground again it's going to be pretty rough.

Yes, I got that way after finding out I had arthritis in my hips (Yay TKD) and hyper-extending my elbow. I was out of judo for almost 4 months healing up and I find out that my instructor wants me to test for my shodan by the end of the month.:ohno:

Hey dude, whenever you wanna get together to roll, let me know. I am still local to you for now.

Martial arts is proably one of the more common activity that people take sabatical from; injury, moving to a new area, and its just easy to get out of a training cylce and stay our of it for awhile.

I've been training in various martial arts since I was ten, with a break between 8th and 11th grade, and other various compulsory breaks due to military requirements. I'm 29 now and pretty much look at my martial arts as a significant part of my life. Its not something I look at in a temporary way....its a part of my daily routine, like lifting weights, and going to bed. For me, that helps reduce and annoyance derived from being 'out of it' for a bit and trying to work my skills back into some similar level of my peers.

I was a whitebelt when I got injured. I'm nearly recovered. Is there anything lower than whitebelt? Cuz if there is I'm it.
