Ye Kitkat, I think that's the basic jist of it.
We used to find guys playing this in one of the practice rooms before Judo sometimes. Never ever saw any groundwork though they seemed to be playing 'stop once you hit the floor'.
Had a go once. Its quite fun, although I kept failing to win any points because I'd forget to say kabbadi kabbadi as I was running back.
From chatting to them there seems to be some kind of inter university kabbadi league organised informally through the various asian societies at different universities.

Is the holding your breath part serious? How do you chant while holding your breath?

I am stymied by the holding your breath thing. How the hell are you supposed to referee that?

Yeh you breathe in before you start your approach and have to keep chanting kabbadi kabbadi all the way through until you're back at your start point again.
Hence why I kept failing 'cos I'd breathe in kabbadi my way up there, then get tagged/ bosh someone then breathe in a leg it back maybe muttering the odd 'kabbadi!' as I dodged the guy chasing.
It would be a fairly fun game if it weren't for the silly kabbadi chant/ breath thing.

A while back I tried to get into watching kabbadi on youtube. It's a combat sport with multiple opponents and tactical hand holding, so it sounded good on paper, but I just couldn't get into it.

Probably have to pussifiy it down to 'touch' level though otherwise they'd have to all wear red man suits and the teachers sign 84 million HSE forms.
