    yup. there's actually a translation for sale, but iirc it costs craptons more than the revised version that changes all the images for kumite techniques. there might be a legal issue preventing something like a scanlation, i guess.

    Couldn't get the pdf to open for some reason.

    A good book to see what early Shotokan looked like is Shigeru Egami's Heart of Karate-do where he has pics from (iirc) the 1920's, when they used to kick with the knuckles of the toes rather than the ball of the foot, didn't have the roundhouse kick, and held their stances in a constant state of tension.

    You kids with your newfangled Adobe Reader! I installed it years ago, isn't that good enough??

    (actually, I didn't speak clearly - the hawaii.edu site said it was transferring data, but either the file is gigantic, or their connection is the worst dial-up ever. No joy)

    It's 40 megs that they have to put on an outrigger canoe then portage across the trans canada to get to you.
