    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    I suck at submission wrestling.

Had my first ever Submission wrestling tournament today after three and a half months of BJJ. As a lowly 1 stripe, I got my arse kicked repeatedly. Kept falling back on my wrestling habits, which was not great as I kept fighting my way onto my front and then tapping to RNC as I had given up my back.

Here is a video of me showing off my total lack of Submission Wrestling skills, hope it gives someone a chuckle (I am the guy with no shirt on).

Everyone has to start somewhere, even when switching styles/arts.

    Not bad though :)

Where the heck do you wrestle in NZ?

You should also be kinder to yourself, you threw the guy, and you had dominant position here and there.

Was this the comp in gizzy a few weeks back?

I used to wrestle for Dilworth Grizzlies, a long time ago. Wanted to get back in shape, was considering going back to train at Dilworth, but thought I would try something a little different.

3 months? you're doing fine. made lots of mistakes, but you did a few things right, too.

You're better than I was after 3 months. Not that I'm anything special, just saying you look like you're doing good for your time training. But it's good to have that hunger to be better than you are, it's a good motivator.

Not really, doesn't provide you with the sort of control you need to pin someone. Side control positions are far more common and far more useful in wrestling..

Your throw was quite good, better than my throws after a year of Judo. Then again, that could be because you are a wrestler. Tell me, what is the throw you pulled of early called in freestyle/folkstyle/Greco Roman Wrestling?

Don't put yourself down too much. After all, it was only after 3 months. It takes time and lots of practice before you can get really good.
