It probly wont get too fiery then. In my experience people dont really start to become fighters till they've had their first fight. Him making her first sparring session like a nerve wracking match up may be good science. I'm not psychic but I'd say he wont let it get outa hand.

The whole set-up sounds weird and counter-productive. Why is the 'first spar' being made into such an enormous deal and set up like a competitive match? Why are newbies being paired of with each other rather than with someone experienced? Why are people being beaten up to the point of leaving rather than being eased into it with touch-sparring and limited drills?

Maybe the trainer may want to see how they cope with nerves? If they even turn up? Maybe he's watching for raw skills or talents or weaknesses- a short cut to see what he is really working with. It sounds like he's a fighters trainer that doesn't want to waste time on people who aren't serious or (I know it sounds rough but) talented.

Hmm it seems a bit odd. I mean, when you first spar it's usually to gauge your ability. You get set up with someone who can keep you paced. It sounds more like a fight rather than training.

Jeez, during my first day of kumite in class (which was my second or third class) I fought 6 or 7 people, and several of them were rather large male black belts. It's really not a thing. She should be fine if this instructor trains his students to have proper control.

Exactly. I don't get the buildup, I originally thought that this was about a smoker or something like that.

Sparring is a regular part of training, and I pretty much spar everybody present, regardless of weight or skill level.

All this fuzz about "first spar" reminds me of this glorious shithole of a thread :

Remember the age of the girl posting.

I'm curious is this the same school you train at Katriona?
