Chessboxing in London

I will be fighting in a chessboxing match in London on Sept 10.

I don't yet know the name of my opponent, but he's said to be 79kg (I'm at about 81kg) and the head of the London Chessboxing Club described both his boxing and chess skills as "crap," which would make him an evenly matched opponent for me.

If you'd like to see what 6 months of boxing training looks like (it will probably be flail-tastic!), and you're in the London area on Sept 10, come on down and watch me chessbox. You can just text your girlfriend/boyfriend or something during the chess rounds if you don't like that thinkin stuff.

Vid will be posted here after the event happens and I get a copy.

Seems like there's a lot of room for DQ wins. I don't know if I could meet the time limit for speed chess after a tough round of boxing.

And seriously, if there is a draw in th boxing score the one with the black pieces wins?

I think the black pieces player only gets a win if there is a draw in both the chess match and the boxing match.

Being able to think about chess and make moves in the time limit after a tough round of boxing is pretty much the whole point of the contest.

If a draw occurs AND there is a tie on the boxing score cards, then the player with the black pieces wins. I don't know any stats about how often this happens, but my gut feeling is that it's very rare.

Yeah, I get that, just looking at the rules seems like there is a lot of room for DQ though. I damn sure wouldn't be any good at this... Speed chess is hard enough without getting punched in the head.

I'm sure it is quite rare, but surely they could think of a better tie breaker.

You get a minute between rounds to put the gloves on and take them off.

Arrived in London a few days ago. Met with the promoter/head of the London Chess Boxing Club weho is a super nice guy. This is happening. Vid will be up as soon as I can get it.

Good luck! I loved this sport the moment I heard of it. Would love to try something similar with a MT flare here after I stop sucking so much (and if I can get anyone to try with me)
