    The lifelong Kendoka who cannot cut immobile pieces of bamboo make a strong case for there being nothing like the real thing, and that's in the case of a training weapon intended to mimic a specific instrument. But maybe that's the beauty of a nondescript stick. The potential for using just about anything makes for a wide variety of weapon characteristics; too wide to master entirely. So in stressing fundamentals, you hope to achieve competancy at least most of the time?

    The more accounts of conflict I absorb, it really seems like technical skills account for only a portion of a victory. In a way this is comforting, because it's comparatively easier to compromise specialties than to develop them.
