Well, I don't think that's entirely fair. In the context of the show it is the same as a boxer refusing to spar with a guy that he might eventually have to fight for real.

The Karate Kid movies remind me of why I love this site, why I'm glad I found it, and what a colossal douchebag I might've become if it wasn't for you guys.
Then again, this site gave me a lust for BJJ which I haven't been able to satiate in six years (of never starting training), so I hate you all a little bit too.
Ditto. I would have been exactly like all the TMA/ninja nutriders that we get on this site (perhaps a little less outspoken) if I hadn't found this site, and lurked for about 6 months before joining.
TS, try to look at the German television stations.
From time to time they send (and resent) dubbed Kung-Fu movies out (they did when I was growing up) and in German those Kung-Fu movies become the best comedy ever.
Crouching tiger, hidden dragon was the first one that I saw in Chinese with subtitles and it sucked (for me), not because of the story or the wire-fu, but because it took itself so serious. I think I was spoiled by the German dubs.

It's like "One day my Aikido will show all of you fuckers. If I could just find that missing piece"
It's down to a tiny kernel, but I don't think it'll ever go away. Martial Arts movies are to blame, but I still love them. And FTR - Karate Kid 1 & 2 rocked!
When life gives you lemons... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!
"what's the best thing about aikido then?"
"To be defeated by your enemies, to be driven by them from the field of battle, and to hear the lamentations of your women." ermghoti
Yes, I feel exactly the same. "If I just get good enough, like those masters in the movies, kung fu will beat everything!" I think that's a subconscious part of the reason I still practice my forms... but I train Judo/Jujitsu.

Check it out.
Any scene with Simon Yuen pisses me off, but that is of course by design.
