Damn, I'd kill for a Sambo club in my area. I don't even think there is one in my country...

Yes, we studied wrist locks and finger manipulations (and how to counter them) under my coach who leaned toward to combat side of things. I cover them too, just not to the same extent. My club is a bit more sport oriented.

Regarding the sport rule sets, none allow for them.

Here in the US and Europe there's also an emphesis on "no-kurtka", but that's only because there are a lot of SubGrapp competitions here.

"special" and "self-defense" are not seperated styles of SAMBO or even exists, but are just forms that are distilled from Combat SAMBO to fit a certain purpose.
Minor correction, but pretty accurate synopsis of my opinion.

I tell people to think of it like this: People do Judo for various reasons, sport competition, self defense, police tactics, etc. Each has different flavor and variations. But, you don't hear people saying I study "Self Defense Judo" or "Sport Judo" or "Police Judo"....it is all just Judo.

We need SAMBO in San Diego CA.

Please send somebody to set up shop out here.

We have a ridiculous amount of BJJ and even a few Judo places. Must have SAMBO.

    Edit.
Is it here yet? Still waiting.

There are six SAMBO clubs in Belgium (see website BASFAD http://www.sambo.be/), but they are all in the Walloonian part with the nearest being in Mons/Bergen. So quit unpractical to visit on a regular base.
