I am sure there are people who have pulled. it off in mma or the deadly streets, but it's like Anthony Petittis landing cartwheel kicks in the ufc, that doesn't mean we can throw boxing out the window and put Only The strong on loop for our striking instructional.
I think JNP's issue was simply that you didn't add anything of value to the discussion. I've been given an infraction for similiarly seemingly-benign posts. Bottom line: No forum is moderated as heavily as the Advanced Grappling forum. And JNP takes no prisoners, I can tell you that. It's the only forum where, if you're asking yourself "should I post this comment or not?", silence is the correct choice.

You have to be good at Jiu Jitsu to use it in MMA? ****, dude, film at 11.

Like I said, Jake Shields, watch him against Henderson. Big Nog, canonical example on Sylvia but a bunch of others as well. You can see Wilson Reis do a bunch in this highlight. It works, people are doing it and not getting TKO'd as they would do in your fevered imagination.

Actually I think his topic is valid, but it's guaranteed to derail the thread away from the original topic, hence the move.

Deep half in MMA is a high risk move. Given that if you use it successfully you will be out of a bad spot it has some value. Since the techniques used in deep half are just coming to the main stream it will not be long before the position is recognized by the top guy and they will shut it down and start beating the bottom guys head into the ground.

Should you ignore the position? No. Should you be looking to go there? No.

Judo is only gentle for the guy on top.

I think Coach Josh summed the issue up as far as reasonable minds go. Pointy Shin, my point is not that "you have to be good at Jiu jitsu to use it in mma." My point is that if you have an enormous technical advantage over an opponent you can do things you wouldn't try against an opponent on an equal level...like Randy Couture shooting from WAAAY on the outside against James Toney. Or Anderson dropping his hands and doing the electric mo town shuffle against rich Franklin.

Because I was on automatic pilot when I moved it. I'll move it to the MMA forum or Basic Tech when I'm at a computer. Or if you prefer, feel free to move it wherever you think it would be appropriate.

I can't think of any fights where it was really used besides the few already mentioned here, I do remember Jorgeson (sp?) getting a nasty KO win from inside a closed guard though.
