Style: BJJ, Judo--
I was using "reap" as a catch-all. Honestly I don't like to think too much about the terms, especially early in the morning.
Also a lot of people (a lot more skilled than I am) do harai-goshi with a strong sweeping action. I think of it as an extreme variation, or perhaps an evolution of the technique. I once read somewhere that o-uchi-gari used to be done with thigh on thigh contact, but that it progressively went down in the search of faster execution due to the demands of modern shiai. This is a good example of the "classic" form that shows the koshi waza action pretty well.
I understand there are different ways to do the throw, but I think it's critical to understand and learn the essence of the technique first, then move on to variations, hence my emphasis on the basics of the throw.
