The absolute worst thing I've seen in person was an aikido tomiki ryu rokudan showing students take down defences. Fucking horrible. The idiot more or less demonstrated this weak ass lame brain eye rake that made me want to vomit. Not only would you not be able to hit the eyes if done at any speed but your opponent could just as easily move his face away from harm at your leg/hip while you went down like the titanic. I mean, who the **** waits to get hit in the fucking face during a takedown?

Complete fucking numb nuts. What I could believe is that the guy had been competing in Judo tourneys for a really long time but didn't know jack about single leg or double leg takedowns. High school wrestlers knew more than this guy.

The best part of this post is that that is a pretty standard way of dealing with kicks in throwing arts but described vaguely enough that it COULD be bs. The easiest time to throw almost anyone is when they are kicking. That's when it usually happens in Sanda. You only really have 2 choices. Catch the kick and throw or dodge the kick and throw. Hannibal described number 2.

    Omar.

My point was that particular Aikido instructor had no basis to demonstrate the techniuqe. Because he was doing it against people who couldn't kick to save their lives.

And I have a big problem with the whole' just step out of the way' concept. If your up against a conditioned striker, the notion that you can just step out of the way and let a kick or punch go sailing past you is absurd. It is just not realistic at all. My time training in Kyokushin and before when I did boxing has shown me that.

Oh and where is that bullshit artist Shumagorath ?
He still has yet to answer my question.

Unless you're still using Windows 95/98/ME, theres no excuse for having someone able to log on and **** with your PC.

As to the original point about dodging the kick, what did you expect him to say? "And as he kicks, we activate this pressurepoint in his thigh that instantly removes all momentum from his kick, allowing us to then use the moons of jupiter technique"

If someone kicks you, you have two choices, make contact or don't make contact. If you make contact you either catch the kick or you miss and take the blow.
Aikido is about flowing and redirection, which is hard to do if you deliberately put yourself in the way of the kick.
    That leaves the dodging option.

You mean in all your time boxing you never learnt to slip a punch?

Yeah you can bob and weave.

Moving out of the way is always better than blocking. But up against a skilled fighter who knows what they are doing it much harder than that.
