Even worse... if you were proved to have done full contact sparring once, with how dominating insurance companies can be, that could well nullify all of one's insurance coverage. Perhaps even retroactively.

So another hit and run ?

So far everyone has been VERY civil, I wonder what the excuse will be?

I just find it slightly ironic that he signs up here as "GKR_Instructor" instructor being the operative word here yet, he's only just been promoted to shodan and he's just 20 years of age.

the other concern with GKR is that if the insurance is for Non contact are you covered if the instructor actually does contact sparring?
To be specific, this is my insurance as a school owner...

I suspect that he realised that he would have trouble justifying his "art". He probably saw the questions/responses and realised that he was on a hiding to nothing. Although it would have been good to ask him some rather pointed questions the reality is that he is just a small cog in the larger GKR franchise (I'm being generous here and not refering to it as a pyramid scheme).

This isn't a GKR thing only, I've seen a few nationally recognised organisations in the UK (affiliated to the main karate bodies, eg WKF, EKF, EKO, etc) where you can become an instructor (there are different levels though) provided you meet the minimum requirements:

    1. At least a brown belt (a shodan in other instances)
    2. At least 18 years old
    3. Got a current CRB check
    4. Got, working towards or willing to do a coaching or teaching award.

I'm not sure how the GKR implements their instructors training program/grading system, but with the ones I've seen they would allow you to grade the student up to 2 belt's below yours (the instructors) so if you're a 2nd Dan you can grade your student up to 1st kyu.

And I've also seen this happen outside the "karate" world, in other MA's.

Its not even really a Krotty thing. I got my black belt when I was 19 and was teaching from then on. Although I wasn't walking around introducing myself as and making a point of me being an 'instructor'.

You've missed the irony of GKR, its general reputation, the attempted purpose of the original poster's thread and his alias.

Beyond that I can't be bothered to explain it.
