Although I have no practical experience with the art of Gorindo, it appears I do have their book.
The Secret Art of Health & Fitness, by Claudio A. Iedwab and Roxanne L. Standefer.
I think I got it during a bookstore liquidation sale about 10 years ago.
It looks like Gorindo is a mish-mosh of generic karate with some kung-fu concpets thrown in. Iedwab is described as a "6th Dan black belt and founder of Gorindo ('The Friendly Martial Art') with over 20 years of full-time martial arts teaching experience. He was Taekwondo champion of his native Argentina in 1981 and later champion of all South America, where the martial arts journal he edited and published, Sensei, was widely distributed."
The emphasis of the art appears to be on healthy living rather than self defense. I make this assertion based on the fact that "self-defense" is the topic of a rather slim chapter 8 running 16 pages in a 163 page book. Other chapters discuss yoga-like stretching, Feldenkrais-like spine alignment techniques, breathing, basic accupressure points... You get the drift.
It's a little hippy, but probably mostly harmless.
I still haven't met anyone who's tried this out yet but I still see their posters everywhere and, everytime I run a search for martial arts or self defense on Kijiji, loads of their ads and free e-zines come up in the search results.
Me too, and I keep thinking I should drop by and visit a class. Then I think again and realize that not opening my yap during the class would involve the same sort of struggle one faces trying to suppress a stubborn fart during a first date.
