How do you know that Gary is a master in Tai Chi , Hsing-I and Bagua? Thats the main question, what makes him a certified master in those arts? His fighting style and skills are not in question but his claim of Tai Chi, Hsing-I and Bagua lineage is

Videos, kung fu movies, books, Seminars and nowadays DVDs. Who knows. We have kung fu teachers that teach karate. We have karate teachers teaching bad Judo. So on and So forth.

Some people are purists who really get into the "whole package" of TMAs; To them, it seems, pedigree is just as important as effectiveness so yes, it does matter.To others, lineage in and of itself is irrelevant but lying about lineage, and what that suggests about one's character as whole, is very important.

Hypothetical: If I had a chance to get lessons from Lyoto Machida I would think that's awesome. If, however, Machida started claiming that he was the sole inheiritor of Excalibur-jutsu, the personal killing system of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, passed down for centuries in absolute secrecy to the descendants of Merlin, I would take my business to a lesser instructor who wasn't a con man and/or lunatic.
