Whilst training to be a medic in the early nineties we were shown films of the victims of russian mines in afganistan. It had taken weeks in some cases for the casualties to reach medical help.
One sceen that I still vividly remember is the surgeon drawing a kind of metal ball ended instrument down an amputees thigh and what looked like a litre of pus came sqirting out the end...Nice -
