I worked at a max security psychiatric center for the criminally insane for over 15 years. I then transferred to a medium security facility and now have more interaction with outsiders that come onto our campus. As the years have passed, I have gotten older and the patients keep getting younger & bolder. I now also work with children and they are far, FAR worse to deal with than adults.
When I was in my 20's rumbling with patients was something we did not shy from. Now as I'm older I want to finish an "incident" as quickly as possible.
I train because I have a 3yr old at home and I fully intend to walk her down the aisle on her wedding day.

Style: Judo, BJJ, JJJ, sub wrest
I train because I spend 50 hours every week as a waaay underpaid fax monkey answering angry customer service calls, and being an excellent office manager for owners that don't appreciate anything. I get out of work too late to enjoy anything, get a whopping 6 paid days off per year that got eaten away during surgery (thanks boss), and have to wake up before sunrise to make sure I can open the office everyday.
So, in the interest of my sanity I joined the only MMA school in my town. But since they only train twice per week, 6 hrs total, I decided to also sign up at a Daito-Ryu/Hakko-Ryu dojo as well. So this way I get to exhaust myself 4 nights per week, and have everyone around me think I'm insane.

It is the only type of exercise, save skiing and climbing that can hold my attention. And I find it hard to ski and climb on a daily basis. (don't even mention the concept of indoor climbing. That is trying like having sex in a wet suit)

I started because of cheesy movies like enter the dragon, kickboxer and bloodsport. I kept at it because it does a reasonable job at keeping my gut under control, its fun and beats the **** out of running.

i started by pure chance when my first teacher gave a demo at my school when i was in 5th grade or so (early 2002). keep training for various reasons, but mostly because i enjoy the **** out of it (the reasons for which overlap with my other reasons for keeping training).

I initially wanted to destroy the 3-4 kids who ganged up on me in high school and followed me to college. Now im a hella lot stronger than them and can fight, so they stopped all intentional contact with me.
I'm continuing it because I really love martial arts and want to open up my own school one day.
Oh... and the 1990's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were awesome ;p

Style: Okinawan Go Ju Ryu
I started training because I got jumped and I wanted to be a Power Ranger. But with that said here's my current reasons:
2. It's fun
4. People find having combat training cool or attractive.
5. People find having combat training funny and fight you.
6. You kick the piss out of #5.
7. The outfits are cool.
8. It helps my anger problems.
I train in Traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu Karatedo and I love it, plain and simple XD
