Now the above are excellent reasons for me training Judo, however the one that keeps me coming back is that choking people on the mat takes away some of the urge to choke the people I work with on a daily basis.

Because every good gentleman should know how to handle himself in a fight.
And because I'm awesome. And fighting for fun and learning real martial arts is part of what awesome people do. Some of us have warrior in our blood, and we feel the most alive in these moments. When I meet a good fighter and I'm being beaten senseless, and my heart and mind and body come together and the whole world fades away and I have no other reality except to summon every ounce of myself to explode back into that mans face and destroy him, those are the moments I feel most at peace.

I started at a kid because of Ninja Turtles. Then it became fun in its own right. So, I didn't stop.
At throwdowns the style and intensity of the fight is usually whatever you agree on with the person you're sparring with. Some folks may only do standup or ground at a light or medium intensity, others might do MMA at a high intensity level.

I started as a kid because I though Bruce Lee and the Ninja Turtles were cool, plus my dad wanted we to be involved in sports, and I didn't like organised ones. I stayed with it because I thought it beneficial to know how to fight, or restrain people as I learned in the Marines. Now I do it to stay fit, and keep the pints at bay.
