I've seen it argued by historians that if it hadn't been for the War of 1812, it's likely Canada wouldn't have had a surge in nationalism, and might have eventually become part of the American colonies. If only the US had been more patient, they could've had us.

And here is the real question. Why do these "street" guys always think they have come up with something better than the tried and true. If it works on trained combat athletes then its going to work on an average person regardless of where you are. Its because the Tried and true takes time and effort to learn. Athleticism and not eating donuts for breakfast lunch and dinner also play a part.

You will be surprised how much credibility someone can gain by showing uneducated people techniques like the "pinch the nips" reversal and not even have them do it. Instead of showing them bridge and roll, having them do it, having them fail and keep doing it until they pass. People feel that martial arts is more knowledge then hard work and athleticism.
