I have no idea who the guy is, so perhaps I'm not displaying the proper deference... but at no point in that video did he return to a proper stance after completing a technique or combination. I think I get the point, though: he doesn't have to, because he's awesome.

Perhaps if the video showed him demonstrating the technique at full speed and power I could witness the magic and become a believer.

I think he doesn't have to because the angle he cuts after the kick, and the stun of being kicked twice and the runoff of momentum gives him enough of a distance and time window to get into a proper stance if it was the case that his opponent charged him right afterwards. Good stickfighters do that kind of thing too and its partially possible because of the added range. It makes sense that kicking could use similar concepts. Also, coming from a Shotokan karate background, he may be used to stopping and resetting after a head is kicked. Having said all that, I'm no expert on this kick at all.

In Kung fu we call in an instep curl kick. Really flexible people can land it on your chin quite well; otherwise, we keep it to the frank and beans (legal in our sparring rules). It's hard to generate a lot of power with it, and it is rough on the joints.

Cups; usually the plastic shock doctor ones. And yes, people go down, cause it hurts even with a cup on.

Seiji Nishimura has a kick for every occasion, after a Youtube search I liked this one the best.

If do right, no can defense.

Of course this guy is considered one of the top karateka in the world so don't try these kicks at home, children...

Yeah, I learned it late in life so I've never tried to use it high (can still do high sides...), but sparring it's a fun one to tap someone's nuts!

Hey, it's the kick that Harold Howard failed at using in his match with Steve Jennum.
