    Hell yeah! Hell no!
The act of your saya hitting another warrior's saya was insulting, which would result in a duel.

    Honestly, this sounds pretty fishy.
Wouldn't both sayas bump if and only if BOTH were wearing their swords on the 'wrong' side?

That's what I'm trying to get at. You would wear the sword on your left hip. When walking down the street, you would move to your left to avoid bumping saya. If you saw someone move to YOUR left, it was likely they were looking for trouble. I'm sorry I wasn't clear.

    Yup.

If you = wearing sword left-handed (i.e. on right hip)
Him = wearing sword properly (on left hip)
Then = your saya may touch his leg

Would *that* be enough to drive someone to want to kill you?

Edit: assuming that the guy in question wasn't the sort of psycho who was looking for an excuse to start a fight anyway...

No one would wear the sword on the right hip. Both warriors would wear them on the left side. I'm sorry that I wasn't clear. The guy in the video is awful(not that I have room to talk, but I don't try to act like my swordwork is any good).

Thank you for making me realize that I've been wasting time and energy asking a completely pointless question about something that would never have even happened, nor would have been allowed to happen in the real world here... lol <facepalm>

Now, on to more important matters... did Samurai typically 'dress' left or 'dress' right? :Hehehe:

Sorry about that. I thought that the point was stated earlier in the thread. I'll try to do better next time.

Not so much "the bump" may kill 'ya as a matter of protocol and showing the proper respect - if the samurai class thought you were "dissing them" then you were in a world of hurt - for a few seconds that is... some 19th Century real life encounters historically documented in which some Europeans learned that hard lesson.

Thus proving that, if you try to emulate douchebag Japanese swordsmen, it doesn't turn you into anything other than a douchebag.

The acts of extreme violence towards people who **** you off, I can live with.

The squinting of your eyes and speaking in broken English, less so.

Edit: Bullshido has a censor circuit now?
