Makes sense. It's worth noting that all carbohydrate sources ultimately end up as glucose. It's just a matter of how much and how fast.

What's the rational behind this?
I'm assuming here that by "intense training" you mean strength training, and by "conditioning work" you mean cardio/endurance training. I understand why you want to have those carbs available during strength training, so you utilize that first for energy while not causing the body to go after your protein for extra glucose. But why not for conditioning? Would the same reasoning not apply? Or does endurance training use fat for energy first? (I've heard that but it sounds like one of 10,000 fitness myths.) -

Other way around. Your muscles wanna use sugar first and fat second. By removing some of the available blood sugar, they're forced to mobilize more fat for energy than they otherwise would. Re-read the OP. He wants less dependence on carbs, and a loss of bodyfat. If your goal was to do the most intense conditioning workout possible then yes, of course you'd want carbs. But this is not OP's goal in this case.
