I got to give the Aikido guy props for pressure testing his stuff. Sure it didn't work as well as when they do compliant training, but isn't that one of the points of cross training?

Plus he was able to get some takedowns and submissions.

Does anyone have a link to this video?

I think this was it (seems it was MMA, rather than straight MT)...

I know that Aikijutsu does (or at least mine) so it wouldn't surprise me.

Video isn't bad as Aiki is actually okay for handling head level kicks, which is mostly what this guy is throwing. I'm pretty sure that a well rounded striker would chop this Aikidoka down without too much difficulty, and that anyone with a decent ground game could escape those pins.

I think it's pretty cool that the aikido guy went and tested his stuff, would love to see him against a more skilled opponent though.

However, the times when he grabs tkd-guy's wrists for what seemed like forever to me, made me a) think that should have been punished more b) wonder if it would have been more effective if tkd-guy didn't wear gloves/ probably tapes.

He shouldn't have been fucking about for the wrist while the guy was standing there largely uncontrolled by him. It was a mistake rather than a style problem

That said, it's easy for me to criticise his aikido from the comfort of my sofa. Props to the guy for sparring. I'll bet the subsequent efforts improved leaps and bounds too. I'd love to see footage of more recent sessions.

And credit I think to the TKD guy too. He obviously wasn't hugely experienced, but his behaviour in terms of maintaining a consistent (and as such safe) level of pace and contact for the exercise was great. He didn't start going all out after being taken down a few times. I bet it was tempting to take advantage of a few openings. Especially as it was going on video.

When life gives you lemons... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!

"what's the best thing about aikido then?"

    Story here:
    http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=90135

    Summary:
Kung Fu guy (KFG) was coaching his fighter at MMA event.
Other guy (OG) commented that KFG was doing it wrong (telling his guy to choke while mounted).
KFG feels disrespected, gets angry and demands gong sau.
KFG rocks up at OG's gym with students in tow a few days later and demands bare knuckle, no rules.
OG gives KFG bare knuckle, no rules.
Video is filmed and posted online.

Have you seen those Hatankai Aikido videos btw? I don't really want to post more stuff that people already know about and are sick of seeing...

Props to both of them. However, that TKD guy needs A LOT of work. I understand he was a blue belt and was keeping it at nice even pace for sparring but his kicks need some serious help.
