Yambushi7 the idiot who can't be out idioted.
The hood mentality is crippling disease, that attacks your nervous system. It makes you nervous of the system. Gangsters and hood rats are especially susceptible to this growth stunting mentality. The hood is where I'm from, but it's not what I am. The hood is where I'm from, but it's not what I am. --Keith David--Ice Cube

I've done Judo with guys much larger than me with large, strong necks. The ones with no to little judo experience were easy to choke with collar or naked strangles. The black belts were very difficult as they also knew how to defend well.
Sankaku techniques or ones that combine legs with collars can break down bigger guys if you can get your legs around them.
Like anything else, it boils down to skill of both parties, athleticism, pain tolerance, and probably individual anatomy.Falling for Judo since 1980 -

Years ago, back when I still read Blackbelt magazine, I read an interview with JJ Machado, and the one thing I really recall about it was him saying that you had no 'definite finishers' as a grappler. Some people had ridiculous tolerance to pain. And (on topic) I remember him saying that a very tiny number of people were 'immune' to chokeholds.
I don't recall him explaining the theory... he never mentioned particularly muscular builds as an explanation (that I remember).
I know that I certainly CAN be choked out. I am also fairly sure that I have never met anyone who claims to be impervious to chokeholds. I did see Tom Watson survive a RIDICULOUS RNC from Matt Horwich at BAMMA 3 for way too long to be normal human endurance, but I don't know if it qualifies as an actual immunity to such techniques.
