Not sure, but i'd guess so if you say yours are awful.
It's a common bait fish here as well, mainly because you can catch some behemoths with it.
Pretty much the same as Japanese saba so it's not for some people.

At the pier here, I've only ever seen Asian people catch them for food. It seems like a fishy taste is more prized/appreciated in Asian cultures, while Americans/Europeans don't really like fish that "tastes too fishy", and mackerel can be a strong smelling/tasting fish.

Nah, we prefer to deep fry our butter, dip it in cheese sauce, and then deep fry it again. The deep fried Twinkies, Oreos, and Coca-Cola are the diet foods for most 'Mercans.

I like mackerel, especially Spanish Mackerel with fresh scallions and some sticky rice. Throw some wasabi and pickled ginger and you gots some good eats!

Mackrel are eaten quite a lot round here. Full of omega oils.
They run every autumn, plentiful and easy to catch. Deliciouse fried fresh on the strand

I buy whole mackerel at the 99 Ranch Market at my local Asian mall. They'll steam them or fry them for you too, no extra charge! :D Just mackerel and a little soy sauce... or I make a hor chiki pepper black bean sauce and bake them at home. Om nom nom.
