There has to be a way that doesn't involve reading.

I'm pretty sure eating the book and then moving to whatever your stomach feels like is close enough to JKD.

Someone should make picture books. No words at all just pics of techniques. It will make anyone a martial arts master, and its so easy even your kids can do it!

When is someone really qualified to teach any art? I've always thought you need to be proficient experienced and knowledgable. I spose there are exceptions to the rule.
The fact they only train 1 day per week tells me its just a hobby, kid stuff.

I once tried to learn martial arts from a book, and I failed. Even with diagrams, you can't really tell what you need to do to improve yourself.

Once example was when a book told me to "stay on the balls of my feet". Yeah, that's technically right. But my problem was that I was elevating my hind foot too high. It was causing my chin to move out farther than my knee and was screwing up my balance. A book can't correct a problem like that.

When I showed up at my gym, my trainer immediately took a look at what I was doing and instantly corrected me. If he didn't, who knows how long I would have been screwing up my stance?

So no, don't learn out of a book, and don't learn from an instructor who learned everything from a book. Learn from a guy has experience and has actually spent time in the ring.

Bullshido is known as being full of BJJ and MMA nutriders.
Of course you can learn JKD from a book. JKD is full of **** anyway so why pay some fat **** to teach you it?

You wouldn't be lowering the quality of the teaching material or level of instruction.

i never understood JKD, didnt bruce lee say study boxing and wrestling or maybe kick boxing , but most of the bruce lee fans just seem to go the other way either to the chun or one of the variations of JKD
but no you cant lean from a book or dvd but maybe a dvd of someone reading the book to you?

Oooh thats gonna wound a few people! Haha! I've never seen a jkd school so cant really judge but after reading the tao of jeet kune do, seems more like a philosophy than style- similar to that of freestyle MA and MMA.
