    Wrestling Roots — shuai jiao

T.R. Foley, a wrestler from the US, is on a mission to travel the world and document the various folk wrestling styles he encounters. He has just been in Mongolia and Shanxi, China, where he trained in the traditional styles of both regions.

Here he is wrestling a bunch of locals in both the Hebei (with jacket) and Shanxi (no jacket) styles of shuai jiao. Looks like great fun!

Mr Foley was an All-American for Virginia. You can read a bit more about his background in this interview. For much more, including his blog and a collection of videos, check out the Wrestling Roots website.

Wow I gotta see the full thing. And props to him for doing so well under a completely different set of rules. I wish shuai jiao was more widely practiced in kung fu schools in the west. Generally the only Eastern wrestling style people know about here is judo.

In my gym people look at Judo and see some kind of crazy Korean Shuai Jiao.
